Black Monk II

The Black Monk (Choegwari) is one of the mask characters from the Hahoe plays. Choegwari is the dissolute old Buddhist monk character as well as the old apostate monk. He drinks alcohol and lusts after young women. In the dance drama this character becomes infatuated with a pretty girl and tries to seduce her. He is an ugly old guy. The dots on his face are supposed to be pox marks or some sort of skin disease. Some sources say they are the result of a venereal disease.
